Adaptive Sport Development Grant

About the Program

This program is designed to support new developmental programs in communities or the expansion/enhancement of existing programs (e.g. integration of athletes with a disability in programming, new age categories). In either case, the goal is to increase participation opportunities for people with a disability.

The grant can be used to offset barriers such as facility rental, coach development and transportation. The maximum eligible support is up to $5,000 per year per program application.

Grant recipients will be eligible to apply for additional funding in subsequent years. Initiatives can be funded for up to three years, but the maximum eligible amount to a specific Club development initiative is $10,000 over three years.

The grant is designed to support the development and implementation of community sport programs and compliment the Adaptive Sport Equipment Grant program.

APPLICATION DEADLINES :

SWSA Clubs must submit applications to PSGB’s and Districts by
March 22 and/or September 22 annually.

PSGB’s must submit applications to Sask Sport by
April 1 and/or October 1 annually.

Adaptive Sport Equipment Grant

About the Program

The costs of specialized (adapted) equipment for people with a disability in sport is a significant barrier to their participation.

This new grant program will assist in the purchase of adapted equipment which meets manufacturer’s qualification standards for disabled sport participation/competition.

APPLICATION DEADLINES :

Clubs must submit applications to PSGB’s and Districts by
March 22 and/or September 22 annually.

PSGB’s must submit applications to Sask Sport by
April 1 and/or October 1 annually.

Clayton Gerein Legacy Fund

About the Program

The Clayton Gerein Legacy Fund was established to provide financial assistance to future Paralympians involved in wheelchair sports. Assistance will help athletes following in Clayton’s athletic tracks attain equipment, training, coaching, and competition needs. Clayton’s legacy is much bigger than just these funds.

He introduced sport to many people with a physical disability and helped jump start the athletic careers of several local athletes including Lisa Franks and Miranda Biletski. We would like to recognize the Office of the Provincial Secretary and the Government of Saskatchewan for their support in funding this grant.

Athletes need to apply for this grant on an individual basis, and should be recognized as a member by SWSA. Athletes may apply more than once in successive years.

A five person selection committee will review grant applications. They will determine the recipients of the grants based on the following considerations:

  • Athletes must be current active members and in good standing with the SWSA.

  • Athlete must be training in Saskatchewan; exceptions will be made providing that the athlete can substantiate one of the following:
    • He/she is training out of province as part of a formal NSO-sanctioned training program.
    • That he/she cannot receive the required level of training in Saskatchewan and as a result has relocated out of the province (i.e., due to lack of facilities, coaching, competition, national team requirements).
    • That he/she is attending a post–secondary institution out-of province.
    • Other extenuating circumstances that require the athlete to be out of the province.
  •  Athletes must demonstrate a desire and plan to attain the next level of competition in their chosen sport.
  • Athletes should demonstrate a desire to give back to their community in a manner that suits their personality, talents, interests and time available.
  • Athletes have competed for at least one year in the sport for which they would use this funding.
  • Athletes must be participating in a current Paralympic Sport (this is subject to change depending on which sports are participating in the current sport cycle)

APPLICATION DEADLINES :

Applications are accepted from June – August each year, and a new form will be shared.
